Build It with LQnode

LQnode creates the ideal starting place for your remote sensing project. LQnode provides a flexible array of components providing processing, power and communications to build your device rapidly. You focus on your core knowledge and application requirements, while leveraging LooUQ’s platform knowledge to get functional and in the field right away.

How It Became LQnode

LooUQ designed LQnode as the starting point for for one of our customer projects. Over the course of a couple projects the power subsystem got updated with more advanced power circuits and more power source options.

Soon it was clear, this was LQnode and it made sense to open it up outside LooUQ. Now all of the parts are source available or open-sourced for non-profits, educational and individuals. LooUQ offers commercial licensing to closed product projects and discounted licensing to organizations working on sustainability projects.

LooUQ will continue to add new accessories, tooling and options as time goes on.

LQnode Features

  • Nordic Semiconductor nRF9151

    • 64 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 (dual-core)

    • 1 MB flash + 256 KB RAM

    • Arm TrustZone + Arm CryptoCell

    • One core available to user application exclusively

  • Generous I/O capabilities

    • Up to 30 GPIO ports

      • 8 Analog In

    • 4 Serial devices

      • SPI, I2C, UART

      • Physical pins from GPIO port pins

  • LTE-M/NB-IOT Cellular

    DECT -NR+ (future)

  • No matter the application, your device needs a power source. LQnode offers a prebuilt array of power options to enable solar-powered sensing to line-powered actuation and control applications.

    • Solar (interior or exterior)

    • USB (5V)

    • Line 6-30 volts AC/DC

  • The enclosure for LQnode is a standard, low-cost commercial case available from Polycase located in Ohio USA. Initially the HD-24F and HD-25F are compatible with the base and expansion printed circuit boards.

LooUQ will be adding support for larger enclosures as needed.

  • LQnode is based on the nRF9151 module from Nordic Semiconductor and is fully compatible with the Nordic Connectivity SDK (NCS). NCS is itself based on Zephyr RTOS, providing a rich development experience beyond bare metal embedded.

LooUQ provides examples and overlays to kickstart your project. Overlays are available for multiple use case scenarios and commented for your adaption.

Licensing

We want LQnode to benefit those working on great new ideas that will someday benefit us all. For all of you in this category, LQnode design materials are available to you free of charge. LooUQ is offering most of the LQnode ecosystem as “source-available, non-commercial” under the PolyForm Noncommercial license. This allows individuals, students, and academic institutions.

If you are a startup, give us a call and we will work something out to get you favorable licensing to any part of the LQnode system, so that you can get started on the cheap and plan for commercialization.

For commercial applications where you don’t want to make public your designs, LooUQ offers non-restrictive open-source or commercial licenses for all parts of LQnode.

Buy or Build… Your Choice

Using LQnode for your project is easy and affordable, for some of you free. You can purchase the components from LooUQ, or you can also build the parts for your project yourself. If you need help along the way, LooUQ can provide design services as well, providing you with custom components.

All of the LQnode design files are found in the LooUQ GitHub site and categorized by type circuit boards, case accessories, or software.

The LQnode system of parts is still very much under construction. Most of the completed items are in the circuits category, with some case accessories already complete.
